Home test for urinary tract infection

With the Mission urinalysis strips you can easily and quickly determine if you have a urinary tract infection. You don't have to take this test to the lab for analysis - you'll see the result in minutes!

Test strip parameters GLU, PRO, PH, BLO, NIT, LEU

GLUCOSE (GLU): Normally, there is no glucose in the urine, but if the blood glucose level rises above normal, glucose begins to flow into the urine. Thus, sugar in the urine is practically always a sign of high blood sugar, or diabetes.

PROTEIN (PRO): Normally, there should be no protein in the urine. If the strip test clearly shows protein, it always means some kind of kidney or urinary disease. Very small amounts of albumin (a protein) can get into your urine, for example, during strenuous physical activity. Therefore, a weak color reaction does not usually indicate illness.

pH: The letter combination pH stands for acidity. The pH value of 7 is neutral, the lower the values on the acidic side and the higher on the basic side. Urine is often slightly acidic, but the pH depends on the quality of the food. The normal pH is 4.5-8.5. Fluctuations in acidity are generally irrelevant to the diagnosis of disease. The acidity of the urine affects the elimination of certain drugs and toxins from the body.

BLOOD: Blood should not normally be present in the urine. Even if the urine does not look red at all, it may still contain small amounts of blood, which the strip reveals. The test is so sensitive that a small amount of menstrual blood or abrasion caused by heavy underwash can make the test positive. A clearly positive result usually indicates illness and always requires further investigation.

NITRITE (NIT): Nitrite is a type of compound made from nitrate by coliform bacteria. If there are too many bacteria, nitrite is found in the urine. Since 90% of urinary tract infections are caused by coliform bacteria, the test reveals most infections. However, a negative result does not rule out the possibility of inflammation, as it can sometimes be caused by a bacterium that does not produce nitrite.

LEUKOCYTES (LEU, WHITE CELLS): There are normally no more than a few white blood cells in the urine. If there are a lot of white blood cells, it usually means inflammation of the urinary tract infection.

Urinary tract infection and pregnancy

Urinary tract infections are common infections during pregnancy. Urinary tract infection can be completely asymptomatic, with vaginal inflammation often accompanied by a white discharge with an abnormal color and pungent odor. Urinary tract infections often cause premature contractions and their treatment during pregnancy with antibiotics is important. Many antibiotics are safe during pregnancy.
